Community Borrow Policy

Last updated: 14 October 2026

In short: Community Borrow connects readers so they can lend and borrow their own books. Every loan is currently an arrangement between the lender and the borrower alone. Bajrabarahi Books provides the platform only and is not involved in, and not responsible for, any book, payment, deposit, delivery or dispute between readers.

1. The service

Community Borrow is a peer-to-peer service that lets registered readers list books they own and lend them to other readers. Bajrabarahi Books operates the website on which listings and requests are made. We do not own, inspect, store, insure or deliver the books listed, and we are not a party to any loan.

2. Loans are between readers

Each loan is an agreement solely between the lender (the owner of the book) and the borrower. Both readers are entirely and solely responsible for the terms they agree, for keeping to them, and for their own conduct towards each other. By listing or requesting a book you confirm that you understand and accept this.

3. Payments and deposits

Community Borrow works in one of two payment modes, set by Bajrabarahi Books. Each loan keeps the mode that applied when it was approved, which is shown on the loan page. The mode currently in effect is reader-to-reader payment (3a).

3a. Reader-to-reader payment (no commission)

  • Borrowers pay the borrowing fee and any refundable deposit directly to the lender, using the payment details the lender provides. Bajrabarahi Books does not collect, hold, transfer, refund or guarantee any payment or deposit.
  • The lender confirms on the website when a payment has arrived. Lenders should check their own account before confirming, as payment screenshots can be falsified.
  • The lender is solely responsible for returning any deposit to the borrower when the book is returned as lent, and for returning any money received if a loan is cancelled.
  • Borrowers should check the name on the receiving account before paying and keep their receipt.

3b. Payment through Bajrabarahi Books (when a commission applies)

  • Borrowers pay the borrowing fee and any refundable deposit to Bajrabarahi Books using the payment details shown on the approved loan, and upload a payment screenshot.
  • Our team verifies each payment before contact details are shared. Payment screenshots are checked automatically, and a screenshot or transaction ID already used for another payment is refused.
  • Bajrabarahi Books holds any deposit until the loan ends and returns it to the borrower, less any amount awarded to the lender for loss or damage after a review.
  • After the loan, Bajrabarahi Books pays the lender the borrowing fee less the Community Borrow commission shown when the request was approved.

4. Handover, delivery and return

Readers arrange the handover and return of the book between themselves, including the method and cost of any delivery. The handover and return codes shown on each loan help both readers record when the book changed hands. The borrower is responsible for returning the book by the due date.

5. Condition, loss and damage

Lenders must describe their book's condition accurately. Borrowers must take reasonable care of the book and return it in the condition in which it was received, allowing for normal reading. Any compensation for late return, loss or damage is a matter for the two readers to agree.

6. Problems and disputes

Either reader can log a problem on a loan. This keeps a dated written record that both readers can see and notifies the other reader. On reader-to-reader loans (3a), Bajrabarahi Books does not mediate or decide disputes and does not move money between readers. On loans paid through Bajrabarahi Books (3b), our team reviews the problem with both readers and decides how any deposit we hold is returned; that decision concerns only the money we hold. Where a matter may involve a criminal offence, readers may report it to the police.

7. Fraud, scams and blacklisting

We review problem reports and listing reports. Where we find that an account has been used for fraud, scams, misrepresentation or abuse of other readers, we may permanently blacklist it from Community Borrow at our discretion. A blacklisted account's listings are removed, its pending requests are closed, and it can no longer lend or borrow. A blacklist can be lifted only by a Bajrabarahi Books administrator.

8. Fees

Community Borrow is currently free to use as a launch promotion. Bajrabarahi Books may introduce a commission on borrowing fees in future; loans would then be paid through Bajrabarahi Books as described in 3b. Any commission will be shown to the lender before they approve a request, and will not apply to loans approved before it was introduced.

9. Listings and conduct

Only list books that you own and are entitled to lend. Listings must be accurate and lawful. Personal contact and payment details are shared only between the two readers on a loan and must be used only for that loan. We may remove any listing or restrict any account that breaches this policy.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bajrabarahi Books is not liable for the conduct of any reader; for the existence, condition, authenticity or legality of any book listed; for any payment, deposit or delivery arranged directly between readers; or for any loss or damage arising from a loan. Readers use Community Borrow at their own risk and judgement.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The version shown on this page applies from the date above. Continuing to use Community Borrow after a change means you accept the updated policy.

Staying safe

  • Keep all messages and payment details for a loan in your records.
  • Owners: confirm that money has actually arrived before handing over a book.
  • Borrowers: pay only the account shown on your approved request, and keep your receipt.
  • Meet in a public place for handovers where possible.
  • If something goes wrong, log a problem on the loan. If you have been scammed, say so clearly so we can review it.
