A Town Like Alice

Nevil Shute's enduring novel, 'A Town Like Alice,' chronicles the remarkable journey of Jean Paget, an Englishwoman whose life is irrevocably altered by World War II. From the harrowing experience of a Japanese prisoner-of-war march in Malaya, Jean emerges with an indomitable spirit, determined to create a new future. Her unexpected inheritance and a desire to repay kindness lead her halfway across the world to the rugged Australian outback, where she envisions building a community in a desolate settlement called Willstown.
