This work presents the first annotated English translation of Abhinavagupta’s tenth-century *Paramārthasāra*, or ‘Essence of Ultimate Reality’, along with Yogarāja’s eleventh-century commentary. *Paramārthasāra* is a foundational treatise outlining the nondualistic Śaivism doctrine, known as Trika, and notably explores the concept of *jīvanmukti*, or ‘liberation in this life’.
