Caste Matters

Suraj Yengde, a first-generation Dalit scholar, presents a critical examination of caste in India. Through personal experiences of growing up in a Dalit basti, he illuminates the systemic humiliations faced by Dalits and the invisible barriers that persist in politics, bureaucracy, and the judiciary. Yengde also provides an honest analysis of internal divisions within the Dalit community and the pervasive influence of Brahminical doctrines.
The book reveals how caste suppresses human potential, drawing parallels with other forms of oppression such as race, class, and gender. It argues that genuine transformation requires Dalits to claim power and for Brahmins to challenge Brahminism.
