Foreign Affairs

Foreign Affairs
is a witty and insightful novel about love, identity, and cultural contrasts, following two American academics on a research trip to England. Vinnie Miner, a reserved, middle-aged English professor, considers herself immune to romance—until an unexpected connection with a cheerful, unrefined American tourist challenges her assumptions. Meanwhile, her younger colleague, Fred Turner, finds himself entangled in a complicated and passionate affair with a glamorous British actress. As their journeys unfold, Alison Lurie skillfully dissects the tensions between American and British sensibilities, the illusions we hold about love, and the unpredictable nature of human relationships.
