Fruits of the Barren Tree

In late 1980s Darjeeling, as the Gorkhaland movement escalates into violent conflict between rival political factions and state forces, the small village of Relling becomes a microcosm of the region's turmoil. This novel centers on Jhuppay, a local miscreant whose attempt at an honest job unwittingly ignites a series of events that entangles him, his love Nimma, and the village's formidable Green Party commander, Chyaatar, in a deadly confrontation. Originally published in Nepali as 'Phoolange', this evocative story offers a sharp, ground-level look at a failed movement and the destructive ripple effects of violence on a community.
