Kautilya's Arthashastra

Kautilya’s Arthashastra
presents the political and economic thought associated with Kautilya, also known as Chanakya. It explores how sound revenue systems support effective government, why taxation should be limited and gradually increased, and how compliance can be encouraged through sensible policy. The work also considers foreign trade, state investment in land, water, and mining, and the importance of checks and balances. Its emphasis on fiscal responsibility, administration, and good governance makes these ideas relevant to readers interested in economics, politics, public policy, and contemporary statecraft.
