Little Lhasa

Little Lhasa: Reflections on Exile and Identity
is a compelling and personal exploration of the Tibetan exile community in Dharamshala, India—often called “Little Lhasa” for its role as the home-in-exile of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government-in-exile. Tsering Namgyal, a journalist and writer of Tibetan heritage, captures the nuances of identity, belonging, and displacement in a land that is simultaneously home and not-home for thousands of Tibetans.
Blending memoir, reportage, and cultural critique, Namgyal offers a deeply human portrait of the struggles and resilience of the Tibetan people in exile. He reflects on his own experiences growing up as part of this diaspora, while also documenting the spiritual, political, and everyday life of a displaced community striving to keep its traditions alive. From the bustling lanes of Dharamshala to larger questions about cultural survival, this book is both intimate and politically resonant.
