Nepalese Wood Carving

In April 2015, a devastating earthquake struck the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, causing extensive damage to the magnificent temples and palaces of Patan, one of the valley's three royal cities. This book delves into the restoration of iconic temples such as Cārnārāyaņa (1565), Viśveśvara (1627), Bhaidegah (1679), Bhīmasena (1681), and Hariśaņkhara (1709), all vital to the architectural legacy of the Newar civilization. Documenting the meticulous rebuilding efforts by the Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust from 2015 to 2022, the book highlights the recovery and photographic documentation of 380 intricate wooden roof struts, revealing carved details and narrative scenes from the Mahābhārata and the Purāņas.
