Poetry of the Thirties

This book delves into the poetry of the 1930s, focusing on key figures like Auden, Day, Lewis, Spender, and MacNeice. These poets, shaped by the First World War, were deeply engaged with themes of war, communalism, and class struggle, believing that poets’ actions were as significant as their words. The Spanish Civil War served as a powerful symbol of their era, reflecting their ideals in tragic reality. Robin Skelton has curated their work into a compelling ‘critical essay,’ offering insights into the decade’s complex moods and mores.
