The Kabul Beauty School

In the aftermath of the Taliban's fall in 2001, American hairdresser Deborah Rodriguez arrives in war-torn Afghanistan, initially feeling out of place among humanitarian aid workers. However, she soon discovers a unique way to contribute by establishing the Kabul Beauty School, a sanctuary where Afghan women can learn skills, find sisterhood, and forge paths to independence in a challenging environment.
Through her experiences, Rodriguez navigates cultural barriers and post-war challenges, teaching cosmetology skills that enable her students to become breadwinners. Within the school's walls, a powerful community forms, as women share their personal stories of hardship and hope, from arranged marriages to domestic abuse, creating a bond that blurs the lines between teacher and student. This shared journey also inspires Rodriguez to confront her own life choices, leading to personal transformation amidst the vibrant spirit of her Afghan friends.
