The Life of Saint Teresa of Avila by Herself

Teresa of Avila’s life story is a profound journey of spiritual awakening and resilience. Born in 1515 in Avila, Spain, she joined the Carmelite convent at twenty-one, where she faced illness and self-doubt. Through prayer and mystical experiences, including a divine vision that pierced her heart, Teresa found enlightenment. Her dedication led her to establish seventeen Carmelite monasteries across Spain. Despite her achievements, she humbly denied any claim to sainthood, famously dismissing such notions in her writings. Her candid narrative is celebrated as a religious masterpiece and one of Spain’s most cherished prose classics, second only to Don Quixote.
