The Rise and Fall of the Black Hole Paradigm

The existence of black holes is a cornerstone of modern physics and popular imagination, yet this book challenges that fundamental assumption. Abhas Mitra presents a compelling case against the existence of exact black holes, arguing that they are in fact 'black hole pretenders' and proposing an alternative model: Magnetospheric Eternally Collapsing Objects (MECOs).
Building on his earlier work, Mitra demonstrates how various physical effects inhibit the formation of exact mathematical black holes, a concept also considered by figures like Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. The book details the identification and generalization of MECOs, an alternative explanation for celestial bodies often misidentified as black holes. Recent evidence, such as the detection of strong magnetic fields around these so-called black holes, lends support to Mitra's claims, providing a fresh perspective on one of the most intriguing mysteries in the universe.
