The Things They Carried

The Things They Carried is a ground-breaking meditation on war, memory, imagination, and the redemptive power of storytelling. On its surface, this million-copy bestseller is a sequence of stories about the madness of the Vietnam War. At the same time, it possesses the cumulative power and unity of a novel, featuring recurring characters and interwoven strands of plot and theme. While Vietnam is central to the narrative, it is ultimately a book about the human heart and the terrible weight of the things we carry through our lives.
