The Third Wave

In
The Third Wave,
Samuel P. Huntington delves into the global shift from authoritarian to democratic governance that occurred between 1974 and 1990, affecting over thirty countries across southern Europe, Latin America, East Asia, and Eastern Europe. This transformative period is identified as the third major wave of democratization in modern history. Huntington examines the causes and nature of these transitions, assesses the stability of new democracies, and considers the potential for further democratization. Through concrete examples and empirical evidence, he provides an insightful explanation of why and how this wave occurred, without offering a theory or history.
