Tyranny of the Minority

In "Tyranny of the Minority," Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt, authors of "How Democracies Die," examine the pressing threat posed by right-wing efforts to undermine multiracial democracy.
Drawing on over 40 years of combined expertise, Levitsky and Ziblatt provide a sharp analysis of how certain political institutions can enable minority rule. They explore contemporary examples, including the 2024 American election and the Capitol riots, alongside historical cases from post-1945 Germany, Brazil, and Chile in the 1960s and 70s. The authors demonstrate how partisan minorities can consistently thwart and even govern over popular majorities.
The book advocates for radical political reform to balance majority rule with minority protections, emphasizing the need for a citizens' movement to pressure lawmakers into action before democratic systems are irreversibly damaged.
