Bound to Violence

Yambo Ouologuem's seminal 1968 novel, 'Bound to Violence,' presents a scathing, mock epic journey through the brutal history of the imaginary African kingdom of Nakem. From the Middle Ages to the twentieth century, it chronicles the rise and fall of ruthless dynasties, the impact of colonialism, and the struggles of its long-suffering citizens, including the tragicomic Raymond-Spartacus Kassoumi. This iconoclastic work offers a sharp, satirical perspective on empire, nationalism, and the pervasive forces of sex, violence, and power in human society.
