Keep the Aspidistra Flying

In George Orwell's 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying,' Gordon Comstock deliberately rejects the capitalist pursuit of wealth and a conventional career, choosing instead a life of self-imposed poverty to pursue his literary ambitions. This rebellion against materialism, however, unexpectedly stifles his creativity and spirit, leading him into a desperate struggle. Only through the steadfast devotion of Rosemary is his commitment to his chosen way of life truly challenged, reflecting Orwell's own early disaffection with society.
