Our Ancestors

Italo Calvino's "Our Ancestors" brings together three of his most imaginative novels: "The Cloven Viscount," "The Baron in the Trees," and "The Nonexistent Knight." This triptych introduces readers to fantastical protagonists and absurd situations—from a viscount bisected into good and evil halves, to a baron who lives his entire life among the treetops, and a knight who exists only as an empty suit of armor. Through these allegorical tales, Calvino explores themes of identity, humanity, and societal conventions with his signature blend of wit and philosophical depth.
