The Last Wolf

In “The Last Wolf,” a philosophy professor finds himself in a bizarre predicament when he’s hired to chronicle the tale of the last wolf in Extremadura, Spain. His tale unfolds in a single, continuous sentence to a disinterested bartender in a gloomy Berlin bar. “Herman” follows a master trapper tasked with eradicating the last ‘noxious beasts’ in a forest, only to have his mission take an unexpected turn. In “Herman II,” the story is retold from the viewpoint of eccentric aristocrats who disrupt their hedonistic gatherings to join the hunt. These novellas, rich with Krasznahorkai’s trademark foreboding and dark irony, showcase his exceptional storytelling.
