The Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor

In 1955, Colombian sailor Luis Alejandro Velasco was swept overboard and presumed lost during a storm. Ten days later, he miraculously washed ashore, the sole survivor of his ship. Award-winning author Gabriel García Márquez meticulously recounts Velasco's harrowing ordeal in his own words, detailing his struggle against hunger, thirst, and the unforgiving sea. Originally published as a series of newspaper articles, this journalistic masterpiece not only tells a gripping tale of survival but also subtly exposes a political cover-up surrounding the incident.
