The Women's War

Set in mid-seventeenth century France during the early reign of Louis XIV, Alexandre Dumas’s 'The Women's War' chronicles the turbulent civil conflict through the eyes of Baron des Canolles. This naive Gascon soldier finds his loyalties fractured by a deep romantic passion for two formidable women: Nanon de Lartigues, a staunch supporter of the Queen Regent Anne of Austria, and the Vicomtesse de Cambes, who aligns with the rebellious forces of the Princess de Condé. As battles rage around Bordeaux, this historical novel places two women at the center of a struggle that defines a nation, exploring how personal desires intertwine with political upheaval.
