Truth and Consequences

In Alison Lurie's 'Truth and Consequences', Alan's life takes a dramatic turn after a back injury leaves him in pain, transforming him into a demanding and resentful figure. His wife, Jane, finds herself burdened with his every need, from daily chores to personal care, leading her to yearn for an escape from their changed reality. Meanwhile, Delia, a writer specializing in fairy tales, sees herself as a 'Great Artist' whose every desire is catered to by her husband, Henry.
